MADELINE AUSTIN is an Off-Broadway producer whose credits include Maybe Baby, It’s You (directed by Jeremy Dobrish), The Invested (directed by Ron Canada), Stealing Sweets and Punching People (directed by Michael Sexton), and the 2018 world premiere of Spin Off by Bernard Pomerance, the Tony award winning playwright of The Elephant Man (directed by Ron Canada). Her producing skills were also honed over a decade working with the legendary Broadway producer Gerald Schoenfeld, Chairman of The Shubert Organization, on numerous Broadway productions.    


Madeline has directed several shows in New York including Hospital Food (Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Writer Lab), Moving at the Speed of Light (Manhattan Theatre Source), North of Providence (Theatre Ubet, Abingdon Theater) and Where Have All the Lighting Bugs Gone (Polaris North); Clue: On Stage, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, 12 Angry Jurors, Little Shop of Horrors and staged readings of Hurricane Diane and Proof for Anne Arundel Community College; and Final Respects for the 2023 Actors’ Center Staged Readings in Washington, D.C. This November, she will be directing Twelfth Night or, What You Will for AACC’s mainstage production.

Currently, she is also a Creative Development Advisor for Creative Women NY (CWNYi), a non-profit performing arts and producing organization, powered by women, inclusive of all, and dedicated to creative development, training, and production. Creative Women empowers creative work through partnerships and co-productions. 

 

During her tenure as the Executive Director of The Shakespeare Society, Madeline produced cultural events with artists, writers and directors such as Julie Taymor, Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Kate Burton, Michael Cerveris, Michael Cumpsty,  Richard Easton, Peter Jay Fernandez, Oscar Isaac, Jefferson Mays, Tina Packer, Martha Plimpton, Laila Robins, Jay O. Sanders, David Strathairn, John Douglas Thompson, Michael Sexton, Cicely Berry, Marjorie Garber, Adam Gopnik, Stephen Greenblatt, David Scott Kastan, Richard Shapiro, and Kenji Yoshino. She also designed and provided Shakespeare curriculum to schoolchildren and DOE teachers in New York overseeing programming including Teaching Teachers, Shakespeare in Schools and the Hunts Point Children’s Shakespeare Ensemble.  

 

She co-founded Audition Mastery with Casting Director Brette Goldstein to train new and professional actors; designed and taught Shakespeare after-school programs at Hunter College Elementary School, Harlem RBI, and other schools in New York and Maryland. In partnership with Chock Global Communications, she taught presentation and media skills workshops at Princeton University. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor at AACC teaching acting and Shakespeare.

 

Madeline is a classically trained SAG-AFTRA, AEA actress with a BA in Theatre Arts. She has numerous TV and film credits and was also part of the Folger Shakespeare Library’s touring company, “Bill’s Buddies.” She has trained with Wynn Handman, Joan See, Franchelle Stewart Dorn, Craig Wroe, and at the Folger Theatre, Studio Theatre and Arena Stage. She is also a graduate of the Commercial Theater Institute and a former Artistic Advisor for Naked Angels NY.
